WRESTLING ' GLEN WADE AMD KING ELLIOT On account of the indisposition of Earl McCreadv, who has been ordered by his medical adviser to refrain from wrestling for some time, the Marton Wrestling Club has finally made arrangements for a bout between Glen Wade (America) and King Elliot i Wanganui) in the Civic Theatre, Marton. on Tuesday, December 3. Glen Wade is one of the most versatile wrestlers in New Zealand at the present time and King Elliot’s splendid exposition against Lofty Blomlield at Marton recently is still fresh in the memory of wrestling fans so that a real good contest can be expected. In addition, there will be several amateur I bouts between wrestlers from Wanganui, Dannevirke and Manawatu. The box plan is now open at Mogridge and MARTON BOROUGH COUNCIL The Marlon Borough Council met on Monday evening, there i.eing present the Mayor (Mr J?. Purnell) and Crs. G. B. Gregory. A. Melndoe, T. Barton, J. B. Gorrie, \V. B. Lang.-ton, K. A. W illiatns, and Mr C. C. .McDonald (town clerk). Secretary of the St. John Free Ambulance wrote thanking council for permission to take a collection in Marton on December 7, 1935, in aid of the ambulance. —In connection with the request a deputation from Wanganui waited on the council and solicited their financial support toward the cost of the Free Ambulance, the amount required being £24. They stated that Wanganui at present were paying 75 per cent, of the total cost. Subsequently the matter was considered by the council, which was very sympathetic toward the request, but on account of the absence' of Cr. Sicely, who is a member of the Wanganui Hospital Board, the matter was held over until next meeting. Chief Librarian, Auckland, wrote on behalf of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, forwarding a framed portrait of Andrew Carnegie to mark the centenary of Carnegie’s birth, winch falls due' on the 25th. instant—A resohit ion was passed acknowledging, with thanks, the receipt of the portrait. Circular letter from the Under-Sec-retary forwarding preliminary information and a copy of the Housing Survey Act, 1935, preparatory to the inauguration of a Dominion housing scheme, further stating that regulations under the act will be forwarded wheu available. —Received The Chief Inspector of Explosives wrote relative to the recent inspection of premises licensed to store dangerous goods. —Received. Messrs Christensen and Stanford wrote on behalf of a client relative to the abatement of a nuisance in High Street, asking council to undertake the lowering of the drain on Gray Street at a maximum cost of £*, further stating that this action will remove the present trouble* —The overseer reported, that the work had already been completed satisfactorily. An application was received, from the Marton Athletic Club for the use of the park for the holding of sports meetings during the summer months on the usual terms. —Granted. Mr A. C. Birch wrote on behalf ot the St. Stephen’s Church asking council’s permission to hold a fair at the park on New Year’s Eve, with permission for the following: A bonfire, fireworks, merry-go-round and a shooting gallery. Further stating that all would be under strict supervision, and requesting particulars of the facilities available and details of the charge. A deputation consisting of Messrs Birch and W. Jackson waited on the

council in connection, with the above . request and after a general discussion ‘ the Mayor stated that the council would { not have any objection to the fair i being held and permission was granted j to hold the programme as arranged, I with the exception of the bonfire. Mr D. S. McGregor wrote relative ' to the water fees on property, Upper | Tutaenui recently occupied by W. Rid- t dell. —The matter is to be considered. Messrs Fullerton-Smith and Co. wrote asking council to approve two allotments in respect of consent granted to the subdivision of lot 9 on deposited plan 8347. —Granted. Marton Boy Scouts and Rovers were granted permission to use the baths for instruction as requested. Christmas Carnival Committee A meeting of the Christmas Carnival Committee was held on Monday night. Present: The Mayor and Crs. McIndoe, Barton, Langston, Gorrie, and end Messrs T. Lowe, A. O. Scott and W. J. Mogridge. Messrs W. J. Mogridge and A. 0. Scott were appointed canvassers and will report to a general committee meeting to be held December 2, when final arrangement* will lie ; made for the carnival.
