Captain J. M. Cameron is in command of the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Mahana, w r hich is now loading in the Wanganui roadstead for Great Britain. The hospital authorities report that Mr. Arthur Motley, who was injured when he and a companion were knocked down by a motor-car in Victoria Avenue recently, is making satisfactory progress. The latest issue of the New Zealand Gazette announces that His Majesty the King has been pleased to approve of the retention of the title of Honourable by the Hon. Sir Alexander Lawrence Herdman, Kt., lately a Judge of the Supreme Court of New Zealand. On the eve of his departure for Rotorua, Mr. L. J. Brooker was farewelled by fellow members of the staff of the Native Land Department on Friday. Mr. Brooker has been appointed district accountant at Rotorua. On behalf of the staff the registrar, Mr. Lawless, made a presentation to Mr. Brooker and welcomed Mr. W. J. Andrews, who has been transferred from Auckland to fill the position of accountant at Wanganui previously held bv Mr. Brooker.
