The Wanganui Chronicle. WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1935. PRIME MINISTER’S VISIT

-THE greatest interest in the election campaign in Wanganui to date was evinced last evening when, half an hour before the Prime Minister, Hon. G. AV. Forbes, was timed to commence his address, the Regent Theatre was filled to capacity with an audience of two thousand people, while from that time on fifteen hundred were turned away. The Prime Minister, by reason ot the importance of his office, should command more than ordinary attention, but the very marked interest displayed last evening was also indicative of a genuine desire on the part of the electors to hear first-hand the Government’s account of its stewardship during four unprecedented years of depression. The straightforward manner in which Mr. Forbes summed up the facts of the crisis as they were and described the manner in which the Government members co-operated and showed the country that they were willing to join forces in bringing down the necessary emergency legislation, was convincing. Equally convincing was Mr. Forbes’ reference to the measure of success already achieved by the reconstruction measures. There was no carping criticism of opponents, although the Prime Minister did make passing reference to the impossible claims being made by some parties during the present election campaign. In the main, however, it was a forceful account and justification of the Government's policy, which, especially in view of the alternatives. no thinking elector can afford to disregard.
