GROWTH OF MILK CLUB

Sir, —The following is an nxtraH from the Times and. will be of interest to many people:— “Milk producers have found an entirely new market in schools, where nearly 1,000,000 children are now members of milk clubs. For a penny a day they are able to purchase a small bottle of milk, hygienically sealed and provided with a straw. The movement has spread to the industrial field and milk services have been established in ironworks, factories, mills and offices in London, Carlisle, Leeds. Leicester and Nottingham. Employers interested can obtain full particulars from the National Milk Publicity council (Inc.), 33 Gordon Square London (N.C.). ,, —I am, etc., HALDANE COOK. ■ X “MISAPPROPRIATION” OE WEALTH Sir, — Your correspondent, Afr. MeLean, Kakatahi, agrees that Social Credit will not misappropriate his personal wealth, but ho still believes there is a nigger in the woodpile—that there will be misappropriation somewhere. Will he kindly explain just who will do tho misappropriating, and how it will be accomplished’ Wo have given tho matter a good deal of attention and we have not previously encountered a similar objection to that which your correspondent offers. We pointed out in an earlier letter that the National Credit Authority will not be a profit-making organisation, and therefore will not take property unfairly from anyone. The main duty of the Authority will bo to supervise the equation of real wealth with money, i.e., every unit of consumable goods purchased will have a unit of money to enable the purchase to be made. Owing to a serious flaw in the present system this is not the case—as witness the ever-increasing piles of unsold goods. 'l'iie- extra money required for the purpose will be created —not taken from people as the highway robber plunders the passers-by. Furthermore, tho extra money will not bo created for fun. The best brains in the world now realise that its creation (free of debt), to fill the gap between prices and purchasing power, is absolutely 'Cntial if industry is to functiqa smoothly ami efficiently. It will be debt money. It. will be given people in (he form of guaranteed prices, dividends and just, price discounts. 'l’iieret’orc. wo fail to see anything vicious in the suggestion. Surely ihe tact that there are interested in (he Douglas Social Credit Movement, such eminent clergymen as the Dena of Canterbury, the Bishop of London, Dr. Norwood and Archbishops Averill and O'Shea in our own country is sufficient proof of the proposals’ honesty. In fact il is evident that all the clergy who keep their minds up-to-date are sympathetic either iu part, or in whole. We can assure Mr. McLean that the proposals are the essence of honesty. I'hey are being advocated to-day because the above cannot be said of the present system of distribution. Bpeaking in the House recently a well-known, member said; “British bankers, in lull, inflated currency and robbod all creditors, but after the war they instituted a policy of deflation, robbing all debtors, the result of which was that great destitution had been wrought; ami the persons who did that were still in 'barge of tho monetary system.” If Mr. McLean agrees with the present system ho subscribes to the policy of “misappropriation.” Will lie state whether he really dees o» not? —We are, etc..
