The demand from the North Island and the short supply here took the price to £l3 a ton to-day, the highest lor over 35 years. For some time past whiles com manded £6 T'.is and Dakotas £7 K's. but in view uf the lateness of the North Island new - * crop, a heavy demand has been made by northern merchants and the price has been goinx up by 29s to 30s a ton each day in the past week. 'The price in 1902 was nearly £l3, and the highest till now was £lO in October. 1928. It is an tieipated that the demand will be maintained for at least; a month and the price will hold.
