LEADER AT AUCKLAND IF PARTY GETS TO TREASURY BENCHES T\VUI.\ I. LOINT PROGRAMME [ Per Press Association. ] • AUCKLAND, Sept. 9. 'i he Leader of the Opposition, Air. M. J. Savage, addressed a large meeting in the Town Hall to-night. Al the conclusion of his a'ldrcss, in which he severely criticised the Coalition Governnrent, Mr. Bivage stated that if given a majority in the next Parliament, the Labour Party would use tne whoie of its powers to give effect tu the following policy during the life of that Parliament: — (1) Immediately restore the cuts made in all pensions, and where full pensions are involved place them on a basis of a reasonable standard ot life. (2) Establish a national system of superannuation which will be payable to all citizens beginning at 60 years of age or invalidity, and extending in ~id;.n. e with scientific development and increased production. (3) Restore a’l cuts made in wages (I; Safeguard the superannuation rights of all civil servants. (5) Assume control of public credit and establish a national credit authority whose duty it will be to provide a money service sufficient to give effect to the will of Parliament. (6) Organise national health service bases upon universal insurance, providing for payment for services rendered, whether in a home or public institution, and safeguard the rights o’ friendly societies. (7) Re-establish all ablcbodicd workers in the industries, public works and services of the Dominio-n at rates of pay that will enable them to obtain an equitable of the country s total production. (8) Guarantee economic prices to farmers and others who are producing in accordance with the Dominion’s requirements, and further extend prim ary and secondary industries. (9) Provide adequate protection for the secondary industries which can be economii ally developed in the Dominion (in this connection it is the intention of Labour to maintain the Customs tariffs where necessary uftil an industry can be protected by sub-’ stantial contrc-1 of our external trade). (10) Readjustment of - mortgages on a basis of guaranteed prices beginning at an average of prices ruling during the past eight or ten years. (11) Extend the activities of the Education Department in providing free education from the kindergarten to the university, including the reinstatement of five year-old children in primary schools. (12) Co-operate the services of nil memoers who are elected to support Labour in ordar to obtain their fub service in the shaping and administra tion of the law. A voto of thanks to Mr. Savage, and confidence in the Dabour Party, was carried.
