The articles involved were of a total value of £6O and ranged from deck-chairs to clothing and utensils. One of the charges, theft from, a dwelling, was indictable. Of the remainder pleas of guilty were entered to 26 and the magistrate, Mr. Woodward, said he would announce on Saturday morning his decision whether counsel’s application for probation should be granted. He would also decide whether the indictable charge should be reduced so that it could be dealt with summarily. The names wore suppressed in the meantime. One of the charges, relating to the theft of a spanner, was dismissed. The period of the thefts was stated to be August 22, 1934, to August 22, 1935, although one accused only was concerned in May, 1935. The goods were stolen from wash-houses, clothes* lines and motor-cars.
