Due in part to the holiday time, and the very iiue weather experienced, the support of the public was not as great as anticipated, notwithstanding the excellent entries received. Nothing daunted, tno executive decided to keep faitu with its members and the main festival was held during the May term holidays. In order to reduce expenses to a minimum, St. Paul’s Hall was engaged for the competitions and con eluded with a demonstration concert held in the Opera House. Again entries were satisfactory, but apart from tho elocutionary and dancing sections, the support accorded by the music teachers of Wanganui was not as good as anticipated, and again the attendance of the public was disappointing. The annual moeting will be called upon to decide if a continuance of the society’s activities is desired in the city. “Judges.—The society expresses its thanks to Rev. John Paterson and Air. Go/don Mcßeth for having acted as honorary judges at the Introductory Festival, and to Mrs. Lionel Sherritf for her valuable services as oflicial accompaniste at both festivals. “Donations.—The executive records its appreciation to the following for donations: —Air. W. J. Rogers, Air. G. Afcßeth, Messrs. Walpolo and Palter son, W. B. Alexander and Co., and D. A. Morrison. “Trophies—Trophies were donated by Afcsdames Lovegrove, Diana Williams, Henson, Dawson, Aliss N. AlcLaren, the Hughes Johnson Hunter Dancing Studio and the Alusic Teachers’ Registration Board of New Zea land. “Helpers.—The society is indebted to Airs. G. Darbyshire and Mr. R. Pat terson for their valutvblo assistance. “The thanks of the society are dur to Alessrs. L. Pairman, of Mangaweka, made a presentation of a beautiful bouquet to the president. Airs. Dellow, and wished the institute many happy re turne. Aliss J. Alarsh was made the recipient of a silver spoon for securing the heaviest weight in the potato com petition, the presentation being made by Mrs. Brine. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs. G. Transom for the presentation of a tea wagon to the ilist it ute. Airs. L. de Lautour then congratulated members on their splendid enterprise and progress, and wished the in st it ute many happy returns of the day. A nicely-prepared afternoon tea was provided, a 1 conspicuous feature of which was a beautiful birthday cake made by Airs. Dellow, and iced by Miss Winnie Dellow. The two candles were lit by the oldest members, Airs. Anderson, and extinguished by the youngest member, Miss A. llom'ry, the ceremony of cutting the cake being car ried out by Mrs. Brine. The competitions resulted as follows: Senior, Miss G. Anderson 1; Mrs. \V. R. Anderson 2, Miss Fannin 3. Junior, Miss Dellow and Mrs. I'.. K. Fannin (equal) I, Aliss G. Gibbs 3. Tlir corn petition for September will be for the best, jar of bulbs. The hostesses for next nionlh will be Mesdames P. Becker, Shields, O't'on nor, Dunham, and Misses A. Ilenen and and J. Jarman.
