CARNARVON GOLD CUP

TROPHY FOB FOXTON RACE. THE SEPTEMBER MEETING. (By ‘•Kestrel.’’) Congratulations must be extended the Foxton Kacing Club on its enterprise in providing a gold cup valued at 50 guineas for the principal event at the forthcoming spring meeting, to be held on Saturday, September 21. The trophy, it is anonunced, accompanies the winner's portion of the stake for the Carnarvon Gold Cup Handicap, to be run over a mile and a-quarter, the total stake being £175. A stop-watch will be presented to the trainer of the winner, while the successful jockey will receive a gold-mounted whip. Certainly such enterprise is deserving of encouragement, and it would be pleasing to be able to record a satisfactory and generous response on the part of owners. It is, perhaps, unfortunate for the Foxton Club that at the present stage in racing preparations fewowners are prepared to let their charges contest a 10-furlong race, especially when more important events loom on the horizon, but if the Foxton Club succeeds in getting such nominations as it deserves, a lengthy li/st will be scheduled for the race. The remaining events on the programme cater for all classes, including the sprinters, hurdlers, * hacks (three events) and maiden performers, in addition to the two-year-olds. Nominations are due to close next Friday week.
