DELIGHTFUL PARTY AT “RANGITOTO” A delightful party was held at the residence of Mr. and Airs. W. E. Pearce, “Rangitoto,” on Friday evening, the occasion being the eve of their son Peter’s 21st birthday. Air. and Mrs. Pearce received their guests, the latter wearing black pane velvet. The drawing-room was gay with bowls of spring Howers and in the dining-room, where supper was served, a lovely bowl of violets centred the table. A happy evening was spent in dancing, while several novelty dances were enjoyed. The Alonte Carlo waltzes were won by Miss Palmer and Mr. C. Guscott, and Miss J. Kilpatrick and Mr. C. Grace. The -lucky spot waltz was won by Miss J. Kilpatrick and Air. J. Palmer. The guests were entertained by Miss Nellie Alasters and Air. A. Pedersen, who rendered several very enjoyable items. Mi?.»es F. PRESENTATION »The Sandon Basketball Club held a very jolly little party on Friday in the Bandon Town Hall to congratulate Miss Leila Lumsden on being selected to play in the Manawatu Basketball Association’s annual tourney to be held at Wellington. The evening was spent in dancing, competitions and games and altogether proved to be a very enjoyable function. Mr. R. W. Weston, a newcomer to Sandon, delighted those present with a . number of piano solos. Much-appreciated dance music was supplied by Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Butler. Mrs. E. J. Davey and Mr. IL W. Weston played the extras. At a suitable interval, the president of the club, Mrs. W. J, Rowan, presented Miss Lumsden with a beautiful handbug and expressed her congratulations and best wishes on behalf of the club for the honour Miss Lumsden had brought to the club. Musical honours were then accorded the guest of the evening. Mr. R. Lumsden, in replying on behalf of his sister, thanked the club for their very kind gesture, which he said his sister deeply appreciated and would long remember that, night. Personal The friends of Mr. Frank Grace will regret to learn that he is at pres ent seriously indisposed. Master Hilary Murphy is spending the school vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. Murphy.
