MAJESTIC THEATRE

“RECKLESS” TO-DAY. Thq new Dronramme being screened at the Majestic Theatre is headed by “Reckless,” an entertaining picture which provides an unusual combination of drama and music, with Jean Harlow, the popular “platinum blonde,” who has not been seen locally for some time, in a refreshingly vital role. No fewer than four new song numbers, several of which are sung by Jean Harlow with full orchestral and ballet accompaniment, are introduced. They are. “Reckless,” the theme songs; “Hi Diddle Dee Dum,” “Everything’s Been Done Before,’’ and “Hear What My Heart is Saying.” Opposite Miss Harlow, William Powell and Franchot Tone share the honours while Nina Mae McKinney, the coloured stage star, appears with success. A most human characterisation is that of Granny, by May Robson. The film, with itg spectacular scenes, it» music, its comedy, its fine story, holds the close interest of the audience throughout. Its dialogue is interesting and witty, while its situations are " dramatic, and there is a charming romance, with plenty of comedy to ease the tension. The “shorts” include “When the Cat’s Away,” a charming an«l amusing cartoon; “Show Kids.” a sparkling revue in colour, into which some wonderful juvenile talent is introduced; and the popular Cinesound Australian Review, which shows, amongst other things, the New Zealand hockey girls in action, and the Australian table tennis championships. Charles Laurence’s comments in this review are very witty.
