RATA PUTORINO BRANCH Owing to unfavourable weather conditions tii«re was c-uiy a fair attendance of inembcrs at the August meeting of the Rata-Putorino branch of the W.D.F.U. Aliss Meads presided, and also present were Airs. Bryce (Marton), Alias Alathieson (Alarton), Mesdames Harre, Smith, Beattie, Pick ford, Ashby, Wright, Downs, Signal, J. Gibbs, Aliss B. Harvey. Apologies fur nen-attendance were received from Airs. Harvey, Mrs. Rhodes, Airs. Bryce, Airs. Kaine, Airs. Follett, Miss Gardner. When the correspondence had been dealt with Airs. D. Smith gave an excellent report on the provincial meeting held in Marton on August 20, fur wiiiich she received a hearty vote c-f thanks. Alembers were treated to some excellent recipes through the roll call: ‘‘Aly Favourite Recipe.” During the afternoon Aliss Alathicsou gave a demonstration on suit toy making which was very much appreciated by all present. A vote of thanks was accc-rded the demonstrator. A little play was very well acted by three little girls, I’cggy and Shona Down and June Pickford, each one I taking their part very well. I The competitions lor the afternoon, kindly judged by Airs. Bryce, resulted as follows: Cream puffs, Airs. Pickford 'J, Airs. Signal 2. Biscuits, Airs. Beattie 1, Hrs. Signal 2. A feature of the September meeting of the W.D.F.U. will be that all members arc expected to speak on the lea tures c-f the Division that interests I them most. Those members not responding will be fined 3d. Competitions for the September I meeting wilt bo: Coloured embroider) on any article, best made toy, coconut ice and toffee, and rhe roll call “Spring cleaning hint.” A dainty afternoon tea was dis pensed by the hostesses, Alesdames Bc<ittie, Jlarrie and Signal. SOCIAL EVENING AT GONVILLE The Gc-nville Bowling Club held its usual weekly function in the Alasonie Hall on Saturday. The “SHO” prizes were won by Airs. Cooper and Airs. Christensen, consolations going to Aliss Shanks ami Air. Ferris. After supper a very enjoyable time was spent in old-lime dancing, the Monte Carlo prizes being won by Mrs. Skidsey ami Air. Alorton. Novelty competition prizes went io Airs. Alorton and Air. Guthrie. Amongst those present were Mr. ami Airs. Chencry, Mr. ami Airs. llunwick. Air. ami Mrs. Thurston, Mr. and Airs. Ruffe, Mr. and Airs. Fyfe, Air. and Mrs. Morton, Air. and Airs. Rountree. Mr. ami Mrs. Symonds, Mr. ami Airs. Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. Ferris, Air. am! Mrs. Wadham, Mr. and Mrs. Guthrie, and Mr. ami Mrs. Christensen.
