ADVISORY BOARD ACTIVE PROSPECTS VERY BRIGHT ( Per Press Association ) WELLINGTON, Aug. 23. Mr R. L. Wigley, tho South Island member of the Tourist Advisory Board, stated to-day that, following various meetings already held by members of the board, he had come to the conclusion that prospects for the coming tourist season were better than had ever previously been experienced. The board has been working in the closest possible association with the Minister, the Hon. A. Hamiltton, and tho new head of the Tourist Department, Mr L. J. Schmitt. A special committee, whi«ch is a sub-committee of the Tourist and Publicity Board, has been set up, consisting of Messrs R. L. Wigley and 11. J. Knight, to confer with the Minister and Mr Schmitt with a view to formulating a constructive policy for re-organisation and development of the tourist business. Already, the board has accomplished much in. re-organisation, which is the first necessity before a definite forward move can be made in an adequite promulgation of the tourist industry in oversea-s countries. “Sufficient of tho preliminary work,” said Mr Wigley, “has now been done to show tho scope, range and necessary action to enable New Zealand to reap a rich harvest from tho tourist business which country’s pre-emin-ence as a tourist resort warrants, and the board has put forward a proposal that the GiVerninent should contribute more substantially to enable the work to be carried through in accordance with the projected\plan of the Tourist Advisory Board.”
