Meteorological Ollice, Wellington, Friday, August 2-1, I p.m. General Situation.—Au extensive anti-cyclone is advancing on io the Dominion from the Tasman Sea, but a slight low pressure wave is passing to the south. Forecast.—Winds: south-westerly to westerly, strong in a feuexposed positions, especially about and south of Cook Strait, but decreasing and otherwise light to moderate; later, wind directions becoming more variable. »Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough on the west coast of the North Island and in Foveaux Strait, but decreasing. A considerable southerly swell south of East Cape, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate southerly winds in the northern portion and westerlies in the southern portion; seas moderate. Weather: a contini* ance of fine weather may be expected in most parts for several days, hut some scattered showers are likely on the west coast and also in the far south. Cold night, but mild day temperatures. Time of sunset (Wanganui) to-day, 5.19 p.m. Time of sunrise tomorrow, G. 26 a.m. Phases of the moon for August:—First quarter, August 8; full moon, August 15; last quarter, August 21; new moon, August 29.
