MUSICAL APPRECIATION
WANGANUI TECHNICAL COLLEGE The final lecture on musical appreciation in the second term at the Wanganui Technical College was delivered to the pupils yesterday morning by Miss h. Newton, of the teaching staff, “Springtime in Music.” was the theme taken by Miss Newton, and she explained that even as poets and painters depicted the beauties of springtime, so composers brought the breath of summer and the lilt of joy into their work. This instruction, concluding a series of lectures on musical appreciation, proved to be a fitting ending to such valuable education, and it was enjoyed especially for the variety of examples rendered by the people kindly assisting Miss Newton. Scoullar and Howie obliged with songs, and Miss Hughes-Johnson gave interpretations of different works with the violin. Miss Newton played several items on the piano. At the conclusion of the entertain merit, the principal, Mr. I. E. Newton, thanked the visitors on behalf of the school for the delightful music, provided. Applause was accorded the visitors in the usual way by the pupils.
