PRESIDENT OF ECUADOR ARRESTED BY MTT.TTATtV GUAYAQUIL (Ecuador), Aug. 2d The military commanded of Guayaquil and Quito, the capital, have announced that President Velasco Ibarra was arrested after an attempt to prociaim. a dictatorship. Congressional dignitaries who were prisoned have been, liberated. Dr. Jose M. Velasco Ibarra was elected President in December, 1933, following the impeachment and removal of President Martinez, aud assumed office on September 1, 1934, to servo for four years. There is no vicepresident, but the Minister of the Interior succeeds in the event of a vacancy. The Cabinet consists of six Ministers, enjoying considerable power both collectively and individually. EX-PREMIER FILLS VACANCY QUITO, Aug. 21. Signor Antonio Pons, formei Premier, has been sworn in as Presi dent.
