BENGAL ACCEPTS

VISIT OF TARRANT’S TEAM. , CALCUTTA, Aug. 19. The Bengal-Assam Cricket Association has decided to accept the visit of Mr. Frank Tarrant’s Australian team. It has offered a smaller guarantee to the board, and will not pay any expenses while the team is in Calcutta. It is felt here that there is no reason why the team should bo called the Maharajah of Pa.tiala’s team as the Maharajah will not be paying the piper. In granting permission to Mr. F. Tarrant to take a team of Australian cricketers to India tho Australian Cricket Board of Control stipulated that the team should be known as the Maharajah of Patiala’s team of Australian cricketers, and that the tour would be entirely unofficial. No Tests were to be played, and the team must not be regarded as representative of Australian cricket.
