CRIMINAL SENTENCED THE JUDGE’S REMARKS [ Per Press Association ] CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 5. “Had your victim struggled, it is possible that he would have died, and you would have been vuarged with murder,” said Mr. Justice Northcroft this morning, when sentencing {Samson Robert Clelland to three years’ imprisonment with hard labour for robbery with violence. “The victim stated that you placed something over his head and you say you put your hand over his mouth. He was an old man, and you are of powerful physique. Had he struggled you might have had to face a murder charge. The community must lye protected against such action. I would bo failing in my duly if 1 extended you leniency.”
