Sir Michael Myers, Chief Justice 0 New Zealand, is to preside at the quar terly sittings of the Supreme Court in Wangaind this morning. He is at Foster’s Hotel. Constable G. Munro, former!v of lh< A.rms Office, Dunedin, who has been in ill-health for the past. 15 months, *ha s been retired on superannuation. Registrar of Deeds and Examiner of Titles at Dunedin, will retire from the Otago Deeds Registry Office on August 21 after over 39 years in the Public Service. lie has held his present position for over 25 years. Mr T. O. Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation, who represented the employers of the Dominion at rhe International Labour Conference at G<,iova, is returning through the United States. He is due to reach Wellington on September 16. Dr. H. G. Denham, Professor of Chemistry at Canterbury University College, a member of the College Council and chairman of the Wheat Research I nstitute, ‘ has been elected to represent the college at the Congress of Universities to be held at Cambridge, England, next July. Mr F. W. Hobbs has consented to nomination as president of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce for a second term. Messrs C. I’. Agar and W. Machin have been appointed honorary members of the council for third term, in recognition of their services to the chamber, and Messrs Norton Francis and H. S. E. Turner for a second term. Mr L. Donnelly, Opunake, has been appointed engineer to a northern county council. He has for some years been on llm engineering staff of the Egmont County Council. Duiing his stay at Opunake Mr Donnelly has taken a prominent part in sporting activities and is secretary of lhe golf club au<l ;■ member of the executive of th? surf ciub. Mr G. A. J. Hail. L.K.LB.A., F.N.Z.1.A., will carry on the work of Mr W. F. Robinson as lecturer in building construction at Canterbury University College, until the end of the year. Mr Hart has been in charge of architectural drawing and design at the School of Art since 1910. Mr Robinson retired last week from the position of lecturer in building.construction and surveying at, the School of Engineering. Mr W. F. Monk. New Zealand’s Rhodes scholar, who is at present nt his home at Kaikoura, will leave Wellington on August 8 for England, where he will continue his studies at Uriel College, Oxford. Air Monk, who was the guest of honour at the Holiest on House term dinner recently, was the recipient of a small presentation frwm the Canterbury College Gymnasium Club, of whith he was a member. Aliss Helen Gard’ner, of Wellington, has been appointed adjudicator at this week’s Drama Festival in Wanganui. She has a wide and comprehensive experience of the stage, is a producer and instructor in elocution. She was judge at the first festival held in Wanganui some two years ago, and gave a great deal of helpful advice and offered much constructive criticism to those who are keen on the objects the Drama League seeks to foster.
