HORSEMAN ON VALPAI PROTEST AT AVONDALE FAILS ( Per Press Association. ) AUCKLAND, April 29. A protest against Valpai after his victory in the Hobsonvill© Hurdles todav was dismissed bv the. Judicial Committee, of the Avondale Jockey Club. The protest was entered by Mr G. Hodgson, owner of the, second horse. Thespis, under Rule 8. clause B, of the Rules of Racing covering restrictions on the granting of gentlemen riders’ certificates. Rule 88 states: No gentleman rider's •certificate shall be granted M> anv person who is or has at anv time been engaged in a liverv stable »r who is or has been at any time .lirectly or indirectly engaged in the business of training or riding horses. It. was alleged that the. winning rider, Mr J. Muir, had been engaged fw training horses, including Valpai and Tlluminagh. Muir stated that he had been associated with the working of horses and had also made a trip to Dargaville with them, bur had received no remuneration, having made the journey for sport.
