The Mayor of Wanganui (Mr. N. G. Armstrong; was thanked by the members of the Mayor’s Relief Committee yesterday, who held their last meeting during his term of office. Speakers paid tribute to Mr. Armstrong’s valued services and to the time and attention he had devoted to the work of the committee. Mr. Armstrong thanked the members for their valuable assistance, and particularly mentioned Nurse Bartlett. Miss Dexter, Mr. A. E. Halligan Mr. J. D. Crowley, and Mr. E. W. F. Gohns. The work of the ladies had been very efficiently conducted, he 1 said, and they were fortunate in hav- ■ ing the assistance of the secretary of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. The help of the committee had been in- > valuable, formed as it was at a critical time when distress was probably the most acute experienced in the history of Wanganui.
