WANGANUI ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. VISIT TO PALMERSTON NORTH. A Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association representative team will visit Palmerston North on Saturday to play a match against Manawatu. The following team has been selected to represent Wanganui:—lD. W. Earle, L. Udy, M. L. Lampe, N. Hay Campbell, H. T. Cox, K. McFarlane; Miss I. Duncan, Mrs. C. Smith, Miss M. Purcell, Mrs. D. AV. Earle, Miss T. Greaves, Miss T. Cox. Emergencies: V. Latham, T. Latham, Mrs. Richardson. N. B. Barkman was not available for the trip. The team will leave at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday and any player or emergency not available is requested to advise the secretary before 3 p.m. to-day. St. John’s Club. The St. John’s Club’s seven asphalt courts have just been completely topdressed and a very good surface has resulted. This improved condition will no doubt increase the number of entrants in the forth-coming Easter tourney and also prove a stimulus to this winter’s tennis. The Easter tourney promises to be a success and entries have already been received from other districts. It seems likely that the grass courts will be closed at a near date in order to get ahead with the sowing. This fact should be of interest to those who have rounds to play in the club events. Owing to the many defaults in the C Grade competition several club teams have been disappointed in not obtaining matches. It is the general opinion that this section of winter-club competition could be commenced very much earlier in the season.
