MANGAWEKA

GOLF CLUB The annual meeting of the Manga vveka Golf Club was held on Thursday evening. There was not a large attendance but Those present were very keen members and a good season is anticipated. The annual report, which was adopted, was as follows: ‘‘We started the year with a credit balance of £9 js Sd and finished up with a credit of £l4 13s lid. Our membership at the beginning of last season was 15 ladies and 20 men and we lost two men members during the year. We wish to express our appreciation to Mr. Rofe, of Marton, for the generous donation of a Challenge Cup for annual competition between Hawkestone and Mangaweka, and which Mangaweka successfully defended the first year. During the season we played inter club matches with Taihape, Utiku. Ra.ngat.ira, Hawkestc-ne and Rangiwahia, al) of which proved most enjoyable. Owing to this early closing we were unable to finish several competitions, also the championships and we greatly appreciate the generosity of our neighbouring clubs in putting at our disposal the free use of their links to finish these competitions. kindly offers. My club wishes to express its sincere thanks to Mr. Weston for again allowing the club the free use of his property for our golf links. The balance-sheet was read and adopted and the following officers were elected for the coming season:— Patron, Mr. L. Weston; president, M. Sutherland; vice-presidents. Messrs. L. Bailey and D. Barrell; captain, Mr. H. Waymouth; secretary, Mr. J. o'Callaghan; committee, Mesdames L. Bailey. ,1. O’Callaghan, D. Barrell and Miss Dickson, M. Alexander; ladies’ escreKnight and Messrs.
