HIGHWAYS BOARDS
INTEREST ON ADVANCES. MOTOR UNION OBJECTS. [ Per Press Association 1 WELLINGTON, Feb. 5. Strong objection to charging interest on advances to the Main Highways Board was raised at the half-yearly meeting id' the North Island Motor Union to-day. A memorandum before the meeting stated that the. practiot St transferring revenue from the mala highways account to the Consolidated Fund had now become an annual practice, ami an examination of the charges against the board’s revenue account revealed a steady increase in the sum® annually charged. In view of the fact that motor taxation was imposed for reading purposes, the motorist had ('very right to resent the road fund being handed back its own money as a loan. If the practice was allowed to continue the finance of the board would rapidly become chaotic, because a huge liability was being forced upon the board.
