EVENTS DURING ASCOT WEEK. LONDON, Jan. 22. Aldershot’s “Tattoo AVeek’’ this year becomes “Tattoo Fortnight.’’ The number cf performances is increased from six to eight and those, with two full-dress rehearsals, will be spread over Whitsun week and Ascot week. —June 11-22. We are able to give a brief summary of the programme:- • 1. The Ceremony of Tattoo —Past and present. 2. The British Grenadiers —Period about .175(1 —Companies of Grenadiers showing the, method of drill (including the throwing of grenades) at the earliest. period. 3. Massed Bands, Drums and Bugles. —With units from outside garrisons the massed bands will be larger than ever before seen at. Aidershot; in fact, the largest in the world playing on the march. 4. Mounted Display.-- Including a combined musical ride ami Hunting scene by the Ist Cavalry Brigade. 5. Physical Training, Club Swinging ami Gymnastic Display. —Several hundred athletes in an enlarged and varied version of the popular physical training item. 6. Battles Old and New.-—The gi'intncss of modern mechanised attack con trusted with the more brightly coloured battle scene of the days of Waterloo. 7. Highland Display.—The, Highland Troops item in different form and accompanied by the largest pipe band ex er seen at. the tattoo. 8. Evolutions with Lanterns. Sta tionary ami marching designs on the darkened aie.na. New designs in an old and popular item. Leaiug up to 9. Grand Finale.—lntroducing the whole of the bands, troops, horses and puns taking part in the tattoo and illuslrnling the theme of the 1935 tattoo, which is “ Che Crown of Eng bind and all its stands for.” Apart from the assembly of all performers the finale will, in celebration of tin King’s Jubilee, include ils own special pageant -involving approximately 800 men, appropriately costumed—present ing tho Sovereigns of England whose reigns haxe reached 25 years or more. For set. scenery it is hoped to build reproductions of thu Tower of London and NVi adsor < ’ast le.
