MALARIA SCOURGE
DEATHS IN CEYLON. COLOMBO, Feb. 3. A total of 703 S deaths from malaria occurred in the north-w’cstcrn province Ln January. The normal death-rate is 700. Eighty per cent, of the deaths were of children. The Governnj‘ut is endeavouring to secure the services of Lieut,.-Colonel P. James to direct an island-wide campaign against malaria. Lieut.-Colonel .lames worked in Ceylon 22 years ago. An Indian medical relief party is expected next w'eek. The epidemic is definitely in decline, but a food shortage is feared. The Government relief measures are in full swing.
