OPIUM SEIZURE
CHASE IN MELBOURNE. OFFICERS PURSUE VAN. Received Feb. 4, 10.20 p.m. MELBOURNE, Feb. 4. Customs officers early this morning effected a big opium seizure. They saw thrpe men acting suspiciously in a flat bottomed boat near an overseas steamer berthed in tin 1 River Yarra. Later they saw them row away and transfer something to a motor van farther down the river. Customs officers in cars pursued the motor van at high speed, firing many shots at the tyres. Eventually they overtook the van an-1 arrested the trio. Quite a number of tins of opium were afterwards picked up along the ro*de ef the pursuit.
