SATISFACTORY PROGRESS FURTHER LAND DONATED. Tenders for the work of dismantling the kiosk at Castleclifl: for removal to the Health Camp site at Gonville resentjy donated by the Hope Gibl ions family, are to be called shortly. Good [irogress has been made at the camp, and a gang of 36 workmen have completed much of the work of levelling and clearing lupin and bracken. Two large sections have been donated to assist the camp by Afr. N. G. Armstrong (the Alayor) and Air. Lance Craig, while a further two acres has been donated by the Hope Gibbons family. These sections, it was decided at a meeting of the trustees last week, would be used to assist the camp’s finances, and would eventually be handed over to the trustees. The gifts were accepted by the trustees, and letters of thanks are to be sent to the donors. Communication has been made with the Alinister of Internal Affairs, requesting that the trustees be made a grant from the next national art Inion. Failing the request, being granted, permission will be asked for a local art. union to be held. Air. A. R. Donaldson, the secretary, reported that funds ‘in the bank amounted to £283 9s JOd after all accounts had been paid. The trustees agreed that the financial position could be improved if the public of Wanganui and district were invited to contribute to the fund now being raised to equip th c Health Camp. It was pointed out that the value of the gilts of land and buildings alreadymade totals approximately £3500. I he Health Camp will be of inestimable value to the rising generation and for that reason the trustees confidently appeal to the residents of the city and district fur donations to assist. in the work they are voluntarily doing,” stated one of the trustees. Taiboys was unanimously ■appointed to fill the vacancy caused by lhe retirement of Dr. A. H. E. Wall Dangerous Driving Alleged. Dangerous driving by motor lorries carrying sheep was alleged at a meeting of the executive of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce last evening. A member said that while driving on the I’arapara Road he had met lorries travelling at an excessive speed, often on the wrong side of the road. On one occasion a lorry had grazed his car, causing £5 worth of damage. “Three or four people have had narrow squeaks,” he said. “Evidently the drivers of the lorries think they own the road." It was also stated that sheep had been carted on Sundays. It was agreed that the complaint should be referred to the Automobile Association, with the suggestion that a check might be taken of the pract® of lorry drivers on the I’arapara Road. A Combined Regatta. Members of the Wanganui Rowing Association and the ♦'anganui AlotorBoat and Hailing Club met last evening and agreed to stage a combined regatta on February 23 at Sandy Hook lo provide for motor boating and rowing races. It was agreed that £6B 'hould be provided for rowing dona- ■ lions and 35 for motor-boating events. I The nett profits will be divided equallv between the two bodies.
