Jigger Smashed by Train.
Mr. H. Beaton, of the Gore railway staff, had a narrow escape on the Waimea, line recently when a motor-jig-ger he was riding collided with the Lumsden-Gore train near the Otamita Station and was smashed. Mr. Beaton was proceeding to Lumsden to replace certain electrical equipment destroyed at the station fire and anticipated passing the train at Mandeville. The train suddenly appeared round a bend and the rider of the jigger had very little time ’to jump clear. He sustained a few bruises in doing so. The jigger was wrecked.-
