POLICE RAID CHINESE
FIVE FINED TOTAL OF £175. [ Per Press Association ] WELLINGTON, Jaai. 21. A house was raided in Haining Street last night, resulting in five Chinese being fined a total of £175 today. The keeper of the den wae fined £lOO of this amount. It was stated by the police that one of those arrested said that if the police had been half an hour sooner or half an hour later they would have had to arrest 30, but a lot had gone out to snipper.
COMMON GAMING HOUSES. C Per Press Asioeistion ). GREYMOUTH, Jan. 21. James Hassall and Daniel McCarthy pleaded guilty this morning to a cha.rgc of using their promises as common gaing houses. Each had previous convictions and was fined £75 each, Mr. Morgan, S.M., stating that it was Dhoir final chance.
