FATE OF 21 YEAR GIRL. I Per Tress Association I AUCKLAND, Jan. 20. A drowning occurred this a/ternooa at Piha, on the west coaX t the victim being Elvira Livingstone, aged 21, of 10 Sussex Street, Grey Lynn. When it was seen that Miss Livingstone was in difficulties, an attempt at rescue was made by Air. Arthur Woolock, of Ellerslie. He readied the young wonmn, but her struggles and the pounding of a heavy surf broke his hold and She was carried out by the undertow, A member of the Piha Surf Club. Air. E. O’Brien, swam out, and after being in Lhe water for 20 minutes, found Miss Livingstone, and without lhe assistance of a life-line succeeded id bringing her ashore, where other members of the club were waiting with hot blankets. Robert Walker, single, aged 22, was drowned at the Kaik yesterday. He and a friond, Air. James F. Campbell, were bathing on the ocean side of the wharf and both were outside the breakers. Air. Campbell made desperate efforts ar. rescue and twice his grip on deceased was broken, and finally when he got the half-conscious man on hii back he was washed off, to sink immediately. The body has not been recovered.
