WILDING SHIELD
CANTERBURY WIN TROPHY W ELLINGTON DEFEATED [ Par Press Association. J WELLINGTON, Jan. 21. Canterbury, by winning four of thf six matches played to-day, won the Wilding Shield for tennis from Wellington. On Friday Canterbury and Wellington had won three matches each. Canterbury thus won by seven matches to five. A tricky north wind took careful handling but the standard of tennis was high. Results were as follow, Wellington players being mentioned first:— Singles.—D. G. France lost to C. Angas 5—7, 6—2, 5—7; N. Smith lost, to H. A. Barnett 4 —6, I—6; R. McL. Ferkins lost to R. Rhodes-Williams 6—B, 6—3, 3—6; N. Bodford beat H. Dymond 6 —B, 6—2, 9—7. Doubles.—France and Smith lost io Angas and Barnett B—6. 4 —6. I—6;1 —6; Ferkins and Bodford boat RhodesWilliams and Dymond 7 —5, 7—5.
