FIRST IN DOMINION SERVICE FOB WANGANUI ' I Ptr Press Association, j WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. 1 This week there will be established in the Wanganui district a mobile 1 dental clinic which will be operated J as a unit of the New Zealand school J dental service. This clinic will be the . first of its kind in the Dominion. The Wanganui Mobile Dental CLniu 1 Committee is responsible for -establishing this new system of providing den- j tai service, the whole cost of constructing being met by this conimitte’e, which j. will also bear its maintenance. The clinic will be towed from school tu school as required by means of a motor lorry. It will be taken to-morrow to Wanganui, where it will be officially opened on {Saturday by the Minister of Health, the Hon. J. A. Young. Rainfall at Okoia. Baintali recorded at (Jkoia during the past month totalled 2.70 inches on 14 days. During August, 1933, the rainfall was 2.69 inches on 16 days. Where People Look. “Advciti&e where people look,” said Mr. A. C. dievew right in the course oi a lecture on “Modern Merchandising to an audience of Wanganui business people last evening. '“People always < - look in the daily paper because there is variety there, tney always want to see what is going on and what is new. The newspaper supplies that want, and it is because of tne eagerness with which people scan the newspaper that it is the finest medium for attracting people’s attention to the selling of { goods.” Wanamaker’s Advice. “Have a bargain every day in each department,” was the advice of Mr. ( John Wanainaker, the greatest of department .store executives. So declared Mr. A. C. Sievewright to a business audience last night. Another point ( stressed was staff education. Some people think that the thing to do is to keep the news from their staff. Consequently sonic sales-people are ignorant of what goes on in the store, and ' they are ignorant of the bargains that have been advertised until a customer 1 comes into the shop and tells them about the offer. In a progressive department store in New Zealand the morning paper is handed round to each I assistant in the selling departments to make sure that they are acquainted witn the goods that the firm are endeavouring to sell by the aid of ad vertising. By these means the effort of the advertising and tho sales force are co-ordinated and they help each other. Sea-borne Goods. The fact that it was cheaper for goods to be sent on the East Coast from Whangarei to Wellington than it was for goods to be sent on the West Coast from Onehunga to Wanganui was - mentioned by a witness in giving evilence to the No. 5 District Licensing Authority yesterday. It was stated that the freight to Wellingon on the East Coast was 2ls 6d per ton, while on the West Coast to Wanganui it was 35s per on. The difference -was accounted for by the greater quantity of goods carried down the East Coast. It was also stated that, due to the institution of the truck rates offered by the railway between Wellington and Palmerston North, goods from the South Island were being unloaded at j Wellington and s&nt on overland to . Palmerston North, instead of being < sent by sea to Wanganui and distri- ] buted from there- 1 * v
