TE KAWAU RUGBY SUB-UNION. The McKelvie Shield Junior Shielc final was played at Awahuri on Saturday. There was a good crowd of en , thusiasts present. The high wind was against open play and Sandon kept the i ball as far as possible with the forwards. The tactics were correct anc the game ended with a win for the blue and whites by 3 points to nil The teams were as follows: Sandon (blue and white). —O’Brien Mullin, Signal, Palmer, Drew, Andrew Sanson, Henson (2), Rowe, Murphy. Lumsden (2), Gedye. Awahuri (red and black).—Sear ancke, Tapini, Larkins, Perewhiti, Cowen, Goffe. Lewis, Taylor Matthews (2), Teoka, Beattie Conwell, Nichol son, Mataki. Sandon (blue) opened play, and foi a time were on the attack. The reds cleared with good line kicks. The blues maintained the pressure and from a free Andrew had a shot at goal but the wind carried the ball wide. The blue forwards took play to the red line and from a loose scrum the ball went out ’to Drew, who went over near the posts. Andrew failed with the kick. The reds took play to the blue half, and from a frpp the reds had a shot at goal, but failed. Half time sounded with play in the blue half. ' The reds opened the second half by taking play into the blue territory. Tin blue forwards, with a good rush, took play to the red twenty-five. A gooc line kick relieved. Play was even foi a time, when the blues broke through tn the red line, but good kicks relieved The reds set up an attack but a free tn blup gained ground. Reds main tained the attack and a good run by a red back was spoiled by lack nf sup pnrt. The blue forwards carried play fn the red lino and a force down resulted. Another blue rush ended ovei the red line, but a five-yard scrum w.tordered.
