WOOL MARKETS
SYDNEY SALES OPEN BRISBANE RATES EQUALLED. Received Sept. 3. 9.15 p.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 3. The wool-selling season opened in Sydney to-day to crowded galleries. The market was fully equal to Brisbane closing rates, but compared with the opening rates of last season in Sydney, best grown wools showed a fall of 20 per cent., whilst in the case of average to inferior descriptions the decline ranged from 20 to 25 per cent. The highest price of the., day for greasy Merino fleece was 17d for five bales from Mandurama. There was good competition, mainly from Japan and Yorkshire, with strong support from the local mills and a moderate demand from the Continent. Offerings totalled 8965 bales, of which 070 were sold, also 2570 privately.
