“TARZAN AND HIS MATE.’’ “ Tarzan and His Mate,” now al; the Majestic Theatre, marks the return to the screen of Johnny Weismuller, champion swimmer. Battles with crocodiles, lions, and rhinos, the race between rival parties of treasure seekers for the ’’alley of Ivory, where the elephants go when they die, the attempt of two white men to entice back to civilisation the beautiful mate of Tarzan—these are the funadmentals of 1 the film. The expedition of Harry Holt and Martin Arlington, on which they have staked their last penny, sets out through dangerous country to find the ivory that Holt has discovered on a previous visit only to lose again. Holt, who has hopes of finding that Jane Parker, who elected to stay in the jungle as Tarzan’s mate, will have decided that she wishes to go back to London. The expedition sets out hurriedly and in an atmosphere of additional drama because two rival white men steal a march on Holt and Arlington, and immediately there begins a series of almost incredible adventures, with Tarzan rallying his wild animals to make a dramatic rescue of his mate. The fights with tribes of masked, natives, the reaching of the sacred peak where the Valley of Ivory lies, the attack by barboons upon the expedition, and the later intricate developments due to the fact that Arlington covets Jane and Tarzan resents their effort to take the ivory from the valley, lead to a most dramatic climax. It is a stirring film. Maureen O’Sullivan, Neil Hamilton, and Paul Cavanaugh are in the cast.
