WANGANUI ART CLUB
Much pleasure was given to the members of the Art Club at the monthly meeting on Saturday evening by a talk by Air. J. Armstrong Neame on the many etchings and dry points he had brought along at the request of the members. He first described the difference between the dry’ points and the etchings and then spoke of the various places depicted in the pictures as he showed scenes of Italy, Germany and other places. He spoke interestingly of scenes and life in Florence the quaint buildings with their row upon row of flower boxes at the windows, which presented a fascinating sight. The speaker referred to scenes in the streets. The horns of vehicles and other modes of warning were going all the time. Air. Neame also explained about the locust beans which grow in Palestine as well. Sketches of beautiful trees, pictures of Alilau Cathedral, old Italian palaces were shown and the special features of the original places described. The speaker drew attention to some sketches of Italy, showing houses joined by some form of bridge as a protection in case of earthquake. An enjoyable supper followed, the hostesses being Airs. Doust and Aliss F. A. Stevens, and discussion followed on points raised concerning art. Air. Neame was thanked for his instructive talk and for displaying his etchings, dry points sketches and some water colours. At the next meeting Mr. Hay Campbell will speak on the British. Art Exhibition.
