WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Tuesday, July 3, 4 p.m. General Situation.—A depression was centred to-day off the east eoast of the North Island. Barometers have been rising' in the South with the approach of an anti-cyclone across the south Tasman. Forecast—Winds: South-easterly to southerly, moderate to strong generally, of gale force in places about Cook Strait and the Hast Coast. Seas (New Zealand waters): Moderate south of Farewell Spit and heavy south of Hast Cape, elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Southerly winds, strong gale force and gradually moderating; seas rough. Weather: Still unsettled and squally with further rain in most districts and some heavy falls on the East'Coast. Snow on the high levels and hail in places. Mainly fair on the west coast of the South Island. Temperatures very cold with some hard inland frosts. New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John's Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday:—Bright sunshine, 1 hour 40 minutes. Rainfall, .20 inches. Shade temperature: Maximum, 44 deg. Fahr.: minimum, 33 deg. Fahr. 1 hase of the Moon. July: Last quarter, July 5; new moon, Julv 13; first quarter, July 21; full moon, Julv 27.
