RESOLUTION supported
Support for the resolution was forth coming at a meeting of the Wanganu Chamber of Commerce, held last even ing. Mr. A. S. Burgess, the. president considered that, free trade within the Dominions was the policy of the future He pointed out that Germany hac placed an embargo on New Zealand’; wool, and against, wool products o' Britain, while Italy and France ha< practically said that, no imports wouk be allowed into their territories unles an equivalent amount of exports wer taken by the country seeking the trade Mr. Burgess said that, personally, h could only see one reply. The Britisl Empire would have to put its house ii order and establish principles of fre trade within the Empire. It might tak some years, but he contended it wouh put the Empire in a wonderful posi tion as a manufacturing country, be cause there would be no other part o the world to compete with it for th Dominion’s trade.
