TAIL SHAFT DAMAGED

MOTORrSHIP TAUPATA. ( Per Press Association ). CHRISTCHURCH, June 28. During her voyage from Timaru to Lyttelton on Wednes<lay, the motorship Taupata suffered damage to hei port tail shaft. An examination to-daj showed that the shaft was completely fractured, and that before the port engine can be used a new one will have to be fitted. The propeller on the broken shaft was securely lashed to the side of th<| ship to prevent its falling off, and the 'Taupata sailed to-day for Nelson, using | her starboard engine only. Repairs will Ire made at Nelson, the Taupata’s home port. The Titoki, which also belongs to the Anchor Company, will convoy the Taupata to Nelson.
