SHIPPING SUBSIDY
NOT FAVOURED BY BRITAIN. REPLACING SCRAPPED VESSELS. Received June 27, 11.5 p.m. LONDON, June 27. The Daily Telegraph’s political correspondent learns that the Government, contrary to anticipations, does not favour a shipping subsidy. Instead, it is prepared to provide financial backing to enable one new ship to be built for every three scrapped.
