Meteorological Office, Wellington, Wednesday, June 27, 4 p.m. General .Situation. —A very deep depression is now passing the southern extremity of the Dominion, and a trough of low pressure extends from it northwards. Forecast.—Winds: Northerly, strong to gale force about and north of Cook Strait, elsewhere moderate to strong and backing to west over the South Island, later to south-west in the southern portion. Seas (New Zealand waters): Moderate in parts of the coastal waters on the east coast, elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong west to south-west wind and rough seas. Weather: Still cloudy to overcast and unsettled, with further rain. Heavy falls likely from Nelson and Marlborough northwards. Temperatures mild at first, but a cool change advancing later from the south. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 10 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Shade temperature: Maximum, 59 deg. Fahr.; minimum, 48 deg. Fah r. Phases of the Moon for June: Last quarter, June 6; new moon, June 13; first quarter, June 21; new moon, June 28.
