WAGES CUT
MATTER OF RESTORATION. FIRE BOARD DISCUSSION. • Per Press Association. J AUCKLAND, June 27. The Auckland Metropolitan Fin Board to-day discussed the restoratior of the staff wages cut, and decided tc ask the Minister of Finance whether ii would be permissible to take sucl action. The chairman (Mr. J. J. Kingston said the City Council had done some thing and it was suggested that th( Fire Board also could do something The restoration of the cut would make for the return of confidence in the city To restore 5 per cent, would cost £950 Mr. A. G. Lunn said the Boarc should wait for a lead from the Govern ment. It wou.d be absurd to restore the cut when 70.000 men were unem p oyed, as they deserved the first sym pathy. After a discuss : on it was resolved tc write to the Minister.
