DESIRE FOR PEACE
R.S.A. RESOLUTION ADEQUATE DEFENCE URGED [ Per Press Association. J WELLINGTON, June 26. Following a sharp debate the conference of the Dominion Council of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association to-night passed the following resolution: “That this council sincerely appreciates the efforts of the British Government to secure worldwide peace ano prays fur continued labour in fhis direction. It considers, howeve' tba* the great disparity in the armaments of the United Kingdom and thc Dominions as compared with those of other Powers is such that the security of the Empire is imperilled. Further, the state of the Defence Forces in New Zealand to-day is causing grave concern. It, therefore, urges the New Zealand Government, in consultation with the Empire authorities, to take such measures as will ensure the Dominion being reasonably insured by the adequacy, both in strength and efficiency, of its air, sea and land forces, and to prepare a plan for a compulsory co-operation of the whole of the country’s resources should mobilisation becomes necessary.”
