RARE MAORI BOWL
CURIO TO BE SOLD. OF MYTHOLOGICAL IMPORT. ( Per Press Association ), WELLINGTON, June 25. A rare, carved Maori stone bowl excavated near Tauranga, Bay of Plenty. 15 or 20 years ago, is to be put up for auction by a Wellington firm on Wednesday. It is one of a number of Maori curios, some of undoubted value, from a collection of the late Mr. T. Chamberlain-Chamberlain, formerly of Khaudallah, which is being sold. The bowl is unique in that pottery was not one of the great arts of the .Maori, so far as is known. It is distinguished further by being carved, and is believed, according to Maori mythology, to be a original Maori light bowl which was used during the migration of the race to this country.
