HEATH FIRES RAGE
DESTRUCTION IN BRITAIN ( British Official Wireless.) Received June 25, 7 p.m. RUGBY, June 24. An extensive heath fire near Aidershot, which was ultimately subdued by troops equipped with gas masks and fire-fighting appliances, was first detected by the occupants of Royal .Air Force aeroplanes, who dropped a message to troops at rifle practice. A:rmen later assisted in directing the firefighting operations. Heath fires also occurred in other parts of the country and there was one or two country house fires which, owing to shortage of water, got beyond ’control of the fire brigades. Ten cottages in the picturesque Worcestershire village Broadway, were also destroyed by fire.
