MOUNTED RIFLES

QUEEN’S OWN REGIMENT. WESTMERE TROOP INSPECTION. A visit of inspection was paid to the Westmere Troop of the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles on Monday by Lieutenant-colonel T. L. Gibbs, V.D., officer commanding the regiment. The troop was under the command of Lieutenant C. R. Leach, and the colonel was accompanied by Lieutenant J. N. Henry, N.Z.S.C., of Hawera, adjutant of the regiment, Captain E. F. Laws, O.C. of A Squadron, and Lieutenant J. F. AlcAlinn, regimental quartermaster. Colonel Gibbs addressed those on parade and complimented the troop on its muster on such a boisterous and unsettled night, referring particularly to those who had come long distances. He urged upon members of the troop to attend the annual camp, which was to be held at Waverlcy from Alay 22 to 29. Officers and n.c.o.’s, he said, would go into camp for a course of instruction as from Alay 19. The speaker also appealed to members to attend all parades called during the year. Interest was quickening in matters pertaining to the regiment and to defence matters generally, and new recruits would be welcomed. The troop, by attending parades as fully as possible, could make itself thoroughly efficient during the training year. After the parade the visitors were the guests of Lieutenants Leach and AlcAlinn and members of the troop at supper. This afforded the commanding officer an opportunity to meet members of the troop individually and advise them on matters affecting their own welfare and that of the regiment.
