Garner, commonly known as “Bert," another link has been severed with the past, ho being a descendant of two of the old pioneer families of Kaitoke district, namely the Morgan and Garner families. An old Kaitoke schoolboy, Mr Garner always took a very keen interest in matters pertaining to the district, he being well known in the old volunteer and territorial •circles. He was a recognised leader in social affairs in the district, was a member of the hall committee, president of the local tennis club, and chairman of the Kaitoke School Committee. The latter position he occupied for many years and gave good service in the interests of the school. After a long and trying illness, patiently borne, he passed away at the early age o£ 44 years, leaving to mourn their loss, r.is widow, two sons (Howard and Robbie), his mother (Airs Garner) and three sisters (Airs F. G. Fowler, Airs A. Lynvh and Miss A. Garner). The deceased was a practical farmer and home builder and by his genial manner and upright character ho endeared himself to a very wide circle of friends, from whom very real sympathy will be extended to the widow and sons.
