AVOIDANCE BY AUSTRALIA EXPANDING FOREIGN. MARKETS (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) Received May 8, 11.5 p.m. ADELAIDE, May 8. A statement of policy regarding Australia’s attitude on the restriction of exports, was made by the Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, in the Adelaide Town Hall to-day. He said that Australia would not adopt a policy of limitation of exports unless unavoidable, the initiative resting on the United Kingdom. Ho warned foreign countries that if they did not buy freely from Australia they would not expect a continuance of Australia’s custom. So far no proposal had been made by the British Government regarding restriction. “The best way to avoid the regu lation of exports is to expand our foreign markets,” said Mr. Lyons. “Australia is now seeking the expansion of foreign markets and foreign trade. ’ ’ AUSTRALIAN BUTTER EXPORT RESTRICTION REMOVAL NEXT MONTH MELBOURNE, May 8. The executive committee of the Australian Dairy Produce Export Board has announced that the 20 per cent, restriction on the gradings of butter for export to the British market will be discontinued after June 1. Shipments of butter withheld at that date will be spread over a short period.
