BULLS

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The Bulls Women’s Institute held the monthly meeting on Thursday, Mrs Marumaru presiding over a fair attendance of members. After announcing the personnel of the new committee, the president welcomed the following new members: Mrs Aleads, Mrs Cooper, Miss Wicks and Miss Ellery. Members were asked to bring competition potatoes as soon as possible. It was decided to donate 10s 6d to the funds of the Free Ambulance. A competition made up from the words “Bulls Women’s Institute,” was won by Miss Wicks, and a vote of thanks was accorded to Miss Richards for organising the competition After ladies of the committee had served afternoon tea, Mr S. Mason gave, a very interesting and instructive talk on dahlia cultivation, which was much appreciated. Next month’s competition will be a plate of pikelets. The meeting closed with the National Anthem. RUGBY Bulls and Flock House Clubs played a friendly practice game at Fock House on’ Saturday. The weather was rather warm for football, and the hardness of the ground was felt, by the majority of local players. As usual at this time of the year, play was straggling, and few players were fit, but interest was taken in the form displayed. G. Crosland and F. Cotts went well for Bulls, but Preston was short of a gallop, and Pawson (wno recently left hospital) gave an indifferent exposition at full-back. Flock House has any amount of players, there being about 70 lads there at. present, and all appeared to be. in good nick for football. As expected, tne burly Beiliss was outstanding and his handling of the ball was a treat to watch. Ke is a powerful runner, and should be a shining light in thirdgrade Rugby here. With Mr V. Pointon and Beiliss to coach Ihe lads, a verv strong fifteen should represent Flock House. Beiliss Scored two tries for Flock Hons?, neither being converted, and Crosland and Sime scored for Bulls, Cutts converting the latter’s try* on call of time, Bulls winning by 8 to 6. Mr E. Westwood refereed. The visiting players were afterwards entertained at afternoon tea. while several spectators were shown over the grounds and inspected the cattle and other stock on the station.
